2015 Bodegas Zintzo Izena Rioja

Izena comes from the very best and oldest vines grapes from plots that are more than 60 years old growing in clay-calcareous soils. This is an incredible example of what care and quality can do without the use of oak for tannins or finishing. Located in the upper area of Villabuena de Álava at an altitude of 530 meters above sea level. The vineyards are sheltered from the cold northerly winds and oriented to the midday sun so that the maturation of the grape occurs in the most optimal way possible. Bodegas Zintzo is a small Basque family estate in the heart of Rioja. Spana Life co. is the only importer to the US.

Varietal:  100% Tempranillo 

Winemaking Notes:  Selection is made on the vine, with only the best grapes arriving at the winery. Pre-fermentation cold maceration. Alcoholic fermentation in a small capacity tank for 18 days at a maximum temperature of 80deg f. It does not undergo any stabilization or filtration processes.

Tasting Notes: Cherry red color with complex aromas of ripe black fruit. On the palate, it is broad and powerful, fleshy and well-balanced taste with fruity sensations. Fine tannins and a very long expressive finish. Rounded and balanced without any oak influence.

Pairing Suggestions: Tapas, cheeses, meats such as beef, game, pork and chicken, stews, paella.
