José Antonio Martínez, a perfectionist, began selecting vineyards in 1989. Since then, he has been working and perfecting incessantly. Today he is very well known and respected throughout Spain’s La Rioja. Jose’s personality has definitely rubbed off on his sons Alberto and Sergio, as they begin to influence Altún’s wine production.

Winemaking Notes: Hand selected grapes from the oldest vines, cold macerated and aged in new French oak barrels for 12-15 months.
Tasting Notes: Intense garnet red, big and bold yet approachable. Aromas of ripe berries, spices and toffee with a balsamic background makes it very complex and reminiscent of the terroir. Powerful on the palate, full bodied and fleshy. Spicy minerals and a expressive long finish. Dark fruit, vanilla, baking spices, bold tannins, cigar box and licorice.
Pairing Suggestions: Red meats, chicken, pork, lamb and stews and paella.
