2016 Rendé Masdéu Trepat del Jordiet
Trepat del Jordiet
Trepat, in our opinion, is the Pinot Noir of Spain. Often blended with other varietals or used for the production of Cava (sparkling wine), it's very rare to find it as a single varietal red wine. This extremely delicate grape is very difficult to work with, and as such, only a small handful of wineries do. In fact, over 90% of the world's Trepat comes from the small region of Conca de Barberà. The Bowl, as the locals like to call it, is a region located in the middle of Catalonia. Surrounded by low mountains with a small valley leading toward the Balearic Sea, this region has been the ideal location for Trepat for centuries. Trepat has been growing here for as long as there has been written documentation, and Ampelographers believe that the grape is likely indigenous to the region.
Rendé Masdéu's Trepat del Jordiet is the result of passion and talent combined with hard work and patience. Jordi Roig, the winemaker, is very well known and respected in The Bowl. His passion and creativity are expressed in his wines as well as in his smile.
Style: Red wine
Region: Conca de Barberà
Varietal: 100% Trepat
Winemaking Notes: Organically farmed and hand picked, grapes are then hand selected and fermented using both stainless and an ancient roman technique of aging in small clay eggs (amphora). This allows for slow oxygenation and prevents the loss of character of the wine. Without the influence of oak or concrete, the true nature of Trepat comes to life in an exceptional way.
Tasting Notes: Its low alcohol level helps to focus the subtle yet complex palate that gives way to a spicy, peppery finish. Rich viscosity and beautiful aromas or red fruits, earth and violet.
Awards: Gilbert Gaillard Concours, Bronze Medal 2016
Note: All purchases of alcoholic beverages must be made by persons over the age of 21.
